LAKE COUNTY, Mich. -- Residents of Lake County are being urged to remain vigilant as the local Sheriff's Office reports a concerning rise in real estate scams targeting the community. Deputies have received numerous reports indicating that scammers are exploiting the housing market to defraud unsuspecting locals.
These scams often involve fraudulent listings that appear legitimate, luring potential buyers or renters into providing personal information or making deposits on properties that are not actually for sale. The Sheriff's Office emphasizes the importance of verifying the legitimacy of any real estate transaction and encourages residents to conduct thorough research before engaging in any agreements.
Authorities are advising individuals to be cautious when dealing with online listings and to consult with real estate professionals when in doubt. The Sheriff's Office is committed to investigating these reports and is working to educate the public on how to recognize and avoid falling victim to these deceptive practices. Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activity to law enforcement immediately.
